Mental preparation is key
David finished first Brit at the MdS in 2016 having only taken up ultra-running that year. He explains that his approach to training and preparation was as much about preparing for the race mentally as physically. Your food, music. emails and silly games all play a part in ensuring you win the mental battle so that during the race delivering on your goals is the easy part. As presenter of the Bad Boy Running Podcast, David's presentation is bound to be as entertaining as it is informative. One not to miss..

Importance of feet preparation
The MdS with blistered feet isn’t much fun – veteran MdS Rory will be covering foot taping, lotions, potions, socks, shoes and gaiters that are race-proven so you can put your best foot forwards in the Sahara.

Hydration and acclimatisation
Jodie’s talk will primarily focus on how to prepare for the heat, with nutritional and hydration advice to help you through the MdS. Exercising in the heat applies a greater strain than when exercising in much cooler conditions, resulting earlier fatigue and leading to an impaired running performance. Jodie entered the MdS in 2019, coming 8th female overall. She has completed the Ironman World Championships twice.

Aged 49 Kevin was shocked to be told he had terminal prostate cancer and may be dead in two years. For some that would have signalled time to hit the bottle but not Kevin, he embarked on a running crusade to raise funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK including 2 marathons on weeks 13 and 15 of chemotherapy, 4 Marathon Des Sables (the only thing on his bucket list) plus many more ultra marathons in the Arctic, Spain, Cambodia, Jordan, Sao Tome and Albania to name a few. Now aged 55 despite still being terminal and on permanent treatment he has just completed 365 consecutive days of running every day despite Covid including a back garden MDS in his total of 4,150k for the year. Married with 3 kids and 2 cats Kevin can't wait to get back to the Sahara to hopefully complete his 5th MDS as whilst he is already the only person with any T4 cancer to have completed the race 4 times he wants to set an unbreakable record in that regard!
